Now Viewing: Icon Charlotte Mears

It would be easy to think that with her baby face, blonde hair and green eyes that Charlotte Mears was just a pretty face but in fact, the 24 year old Cambridge beauty has a lot more to her than what first meets the eye.

Having taken A-Levels in Psychology, Sociology and Performing Arts Charlotte is not only academic but also has a passion for singing, acting and dance, she trained as a classical singer in her youth and has been a keen figure skater, boxer and golf player since her teens.

Her modelling career started when she was 19, unsure of which career path to follow, Charlotte’s mum took some photos of her in the garden and sent them off to a modelling agency. Her angelic looks caught the attention of the casting directors and she was signed instantly.

Soon after her first professional photo shoot Charlotte was gracing the cover of Boys Toys, What Mobile, PC Format and Prima Baby. She was signed up to clothing brand Hooch for their catalogue and appeared in music videos for Nate James and Studio B. Shortly after her pretty feet grabbed the attention of the people at Jimmy Choo and she was signed to model their summer collections.

At 20, Charlotte’s modelling career was keeping her busy day in and day out and she set up home in London to make sure she was available for all castings and shoots. It was shortly after moving to London that she met England footballer Jermaine Defoe, within a year they were living together and engaged to be married.

In 2007, Charlotte was signed up to ITV’s show WAG’s Boutique with 9 other WAG’s where two teams of 5 competed against each other to run two fashion boutiques over a three month period. The success of the show brought more work Charlotte’s way.

Working with the Home Office Charlotte helped raise awareness of skin cancer and damage the sun can do to your skin, she followed this up with a fake tan campaign in Company magazine and has also worked closely with Fake Bake on their ‘Save Your Skin’ campaign. She was also signed to be the face of ladies fashion label ‘Lipsy’.

Shortly after the show Charlotte and Jermaine’s relationship fell apart when claims that he had cheated on her with glamour model Danielle Lloyd hit the headlines. Taking it gracefully she collected her belongings and moved out of their house the next day, refusing to do any press interviews about their relationship.

At this stage Charlotte had become known in her own right and the job offers still stayed steady, and she rebuilt her life away from Jermaine. Since the breakdown of her relationship to Jermaine she has appeared on Celebrity Ready Steady Cook, Celebrity Place in The Sun, SKY One’s Catfight and Big Brother’s Big Mouth. She was invited to model at Liverpool Fashion week two years in a row, has had features on her love for fashion and fitness in OK, Love It, Closer, Now and other showbiz weeklies, and hardly a month will go past without her appearing in the fashion pages of the showbiz press as people want to know how to dress like Miss Mears.

This summer Charlotte headed back to college in Cambridge and gained a Level 3 advanced diploma in personal training and nutritional advisory as well as a level 2 in studio instruction and can now teach spin, body conditioning, step, body combat and many other classes. Charlotte has since moved back to London in November where she hopes to build a portfolio of clients to get her personal training business off the ground.
