Hollyoaks (Channel 4)

Now Viewing: Icon Ciara Janson

Best known for her role in Channel 4’s Hollyoaks, 23 year old Ciara had her first job when she was 18 months old. Coming from a family of actors, Ciara often tagged along with her mum to castings and auditions.

The ‘gurgleover’ at 18 months started Ciara’s career as a voiceover artist and inspired acting agents Hobson’s International to start a children’s division within their company. When she was 5 years old Ciara become the youngest child to have a regular slot on radio in a show called ‘Victoria’. Being in the voiceover booth is where Ciara feels most comfortable.

Attending Danes Hill School and Epsom College she was keen to develop her career in TV and auditioned for Hollyoaks and landed the role of Nicole and became a regular in the soap from 2004 to 2006. For her first acting role she was given a role that challenged her acting skills, a challenge she rose to spectacularly. Her character left the show with an opening for her to return at any point.

After leaving the show Ciara moved back to London where she was offered a number of new jobs and was selective as to what she wanted to do while planning what direction to take her career.

The voiceover work had never faded for Ciara and now living back in London she no longer had to turn down the work and was able to get back into the booth and was quickly signed for CBBC series 64 Zoo Lane. Disney were also fans of the young beauty’s voice and she was asked to be the voice of ‘Jo’ from the Famous Five for the Disney Channel’s animated series. Most recently Ciara has become Doctor Who’s companion Amy in the talking book series and her work with the hit cult show has taken her all over the world as fans demand she is at the Doctor Who conventions.

Amidst all her voiceover work, Ciara started suffering from panic attacks and low self esteem. When she was at a spiritual fair with her mum and sister she was told she was lactose intolerant, being skeptical she slowly cut out dairy from her diet and sure enough the panic attacks stopped, giving her the confidence to not be held back and to push herself even further in her career.

The end of 2008 saw Ciara back in the UK press and out at a number of high profile events in London. Her comeback shoot appeared in the January issue of FHM and having secured the female lead in a new west end show, ‘New Boy’ will see her making her stage debut in April 2009.

Just before taking to the West End, Ciara appeared at the Buxton Opera House during the Christmas period in the popular panto Cinderella, playing the lead role.
