formed boyband 911

Now Viewing: Icon Jimmy Constable

Liverpool-born Jimmy had his first taste of musical success when he was 9 years old, winning a talent contest as his childhood idol Shakin’ Stevens.
Having tried his hand as a lifeguard, car mechanic and boxer, Jimmy become a dancer for a late night TV show ‘The Hitman and Her’ where he replaced Jason Orange so he could pursue his music career in Take That. It was there that he also met fellow band member Spike Dawbarn and his boyband 911 was formed. The lads held auditions were they secured the third and final member Lee Brenman. Virgin Records signed the boys after they had spent a year touring schools around the UK and the five years that followed saw the boys rocket to fame, releasing four albums, including a greatest hits, achieving 10 top ten hit singles, with 2 number one's and selling over 7 million records world wide. 911 also toured the UK three times playing major arenas and sold out two stadium dates in Asia.

After the band split, Jimmy fell into deep depression and he turned to drink and drugs for the next two years. He has talked openly about this dark period of his life and on a number of occasions thought of taking his own life. His wake up call came when his car spun off the motorway and he almost died in a serious road accident.  It was the crash that saved Jimmy’s life and pulled him back to reality. Here he found the inner strength to turn his life around and start again.

Taking a few years to write solo material and face his demons through his music, Jimmy was invited to be part of MTV’s reality TV show Totally Boyband in 2006. The series followed ex-members of other boybands and formed a new group, Upper Street. Their debut single was released at the end of the series and shortly afterwards the boys focused on their own solo projects.

In February 2007 Jimmy and fiancé Claire become parents to daughter Ellie. It was the family unit that Jimmy needed at this time of his life and he became a full time father and fitted in 911 reunion gigs into the evenings.
Early 2008 saw 911 get back together for a one-off TV show called ‘Pop Goes the Band’ which was aired on Living in January 2009. The show saw Jimmy, Spike and Lee take on a fitness regime, strict diet and other treatments to get them back into shape for a one night only gig to their loyal fans who still support them 8 years after the split.

Jimmy was also selected as a reserve for ITV’s Celeb Air in the summer and took the full Cabin Crew training with Monarch Airlines. He has since started working on his pilot’s license and hopes to one day have a license to fly.
