Big Brother Winner (2009)

Now Viewing: Icon Rachel Rice

This summer, Welsh beauty Rachel Rice was crowned the winner of Big Brother 9.  Having spent the summer gracing your screens Rachel won the British public over by being herself. She didn’t join in the catty fights, she didn’t moan, she simply made the best of any situation that was thrown at her. Endearing herself to the public in particular when choosing for her fellow housemates from hell to receive their letters from loved ones thus not being able to receive her own and never letting her housemates know of her sacrifice!

Prior to entering the Big Brother house and therefore the public eye, Rachel has completed a degree in English and Drama and was studying to become a teacher, she is planning on finishing her training in between other work commitments as she loved having her own class of students and seeing them progress.

In between her studying, Rachel enjoyed acting and modeling herself. Starting from a young age Rachel appeared in 21 television commercials between 1990 and 1992 including Sony Small Wonder, Tiny Tears and Tommy, Lenor and Chambourcy yoghurt.

As she grew older, Rachel’s roles moved away from commercials and into TV and film working for BBC, Channel 4 and Granada and appearing in TV shows such as Sherlock Holmes, The Prince and the Pauper and Figure of Eight. As a young girl she was also part of the school educational series ‘Friend or Foe’ and recorded 9 Educational Radio programmes for BBC Radio 4 ‘Bookwise’.

In 2003 Rachel was second runner up on the Miss Wales contest which was won by former Big Brother housemate Imogen Thomas. Rachel went on to represent both South and North Wales in Miss Great Britain. In 2004, she won the Wales on Sunday‘s ‘Welsh Idol ‘competition.  She was in the top 10 finalists in 2005 with More Magazine’s most fanciable girls in the UK beauty contest.

After her success in the Big Brother house Rachel has been overwhelmed by the reaction of the public, and has had a huge support from Wales. The week that followed the Big Brother final she embarked on a whirlwind tour of the UK doing photo shoots and interviews with the UK media. Requested by Naomi Campbell, Rachel was lucky enough to model at London Fashion Week for the Fashion Relief catwalk show, joining the likes of Cheryl Cole and Mischa Barton.

Being a fitness fanatic Rachel was over the moon to learn she has secured her place in the 2009 London Marathon. Next year, as well as finishing her teacher training, Rachel is looking forward to moving into TV presenting and acting.
